Casa Kanela began as a partial remodel and evolved into a structural recalibration. Once opened, it became clear the original foundation could not support the expanded vision, requiring a full slab rebuild before vertical work could proceed.
The second story introduces non-parallel slopes, increasing framing complexity and demanding tight coordination at the feature staircase window. Commercial-grade glazing systems replaced residential units, reinforcing façade precision.
Blanco’s design experts led interior selections and constructability consultation, aligning materials with structural realities. Remote ventilation systems, high-rated glazing (ES Windows) integrated smart lighting (Lutron), and products from Miele preserve quiet sophistication. The finished home feels cohesive, though much of the most important work lies beneath the surface.
