Casa Costa

2025
Casa Costa is defined by clean lines and a disciplined minimalism. A floating glass and wood stair anchors the space, allowing light to move freely through the home. Natural light is maximized throughout, reinforcing a quiet complexity beneath the simplicity.

Casa Costa began as a constrained structure, with only the original exterior walls retained as a starting point. From there, the home was comprehensively reengineered. The existing wood-joist slab was removed and replaced with compacted fill and a reinforced concrete structural system—an essential upgrade to properly support the home’s expansion and ensure long-term stability. What appeared to be a renovation at first glance quickly became a structural reinvention.

The addition of a second level introduced vertical layering while carefully preserving the residential scale of the original footprint. Proportions were studied closely so the expanded massing felt intentional rather than imposed. The structural framework became the organizing principle of the design, guiding both layout and detailing decisions.

Inside, finishes were approached with restraint. Rather than relying on excessive material shifts, the design emphasizes proportion, contrast, and spatial clarity. Light, shadow, and alignment carry much of the visual weight, allowing the architecture itself to define character. The result is a home that feels dramatically transformed, yet disciplined in its execution.

The kitchen anchors the living spaces and is outfitted with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances. Structural integrity, coordination, and long-term performance drove each phase of work, ensuring the final result reflects not just aesthetic change, but foundational improvement.
